The film covers through fiction real-life events like the occupation of Iraq, the execution of Daniel Pearl, the Hood event and the Abu Ghraib torture scandal. As the movie producers state, this is a work of fiction that is based on real events. So, it is no more truthful than an American-produced movie that shows the (stereo)typical Moslem as a savage or a terrorist. In fact as it is based on real events, it contains more truth than say an episode of the completely fictional and blatantly jingoistic U.S. series 24. <br/><br/>However, after reading the extremely negative and angry comments from some reviewers of this movie, I could only laugh. These people are clearly offended by free-speech when the proverbial 'shoe' is on the other foot. I can imagine these same people cheering when the US tries to shove democracy and free-speech down the throats of peoples whose traditions or cultures it misunderstands if not belittles (think of the Vietnamese, Somalians, Afghans, Iraqis, etc.). As a Turk living in America, I am proud of my host country, as I am of my Turkish heritage. However, I find it hard to condemn this blatantly propagandist movie, as I think its success among audiences in Turkey simply reflects the frustration in that country, as well as possibly in the rest of the non-US world, about current US foreign policy.<br/><br/>I also think it is high time Americans see "themselves" depicted as the bad guys in movies for a change. If as an American, you truly believe the freedom of speech is everyone's right and not just yours, then you cannot possibly be offended by this movie. You may be hurt or disappointed that Americans and their intentions are misunderstood by foreigners, i.e. trying to bring democracy to Iraq, but never offended. <br/><br/>I give this movie top marks for making viewers take a closer look at the resentment building up in Turkey against US policies in Iraq, and not for its negative depiction of Americans or Jews. I only wish more non-Turks, especially the more sensible Americans, would have a chance to see this movie. The controversy surrounding the movie and the heavy handed reactions by some countries where it is shown (most notably Germany banning it from theaters) indicate that the movie will continue to attract attention outside Turkey. Despite what this movie might suggest, I think deep down most Turks still have great respect for America and Americans, if not for its policies and methods. This one is no exception.. All I can say is "AMAZING". I have never watched anything like this. WOW! I am still trembling. This movie opened my eyes. The plot, the actors, the scenes, the music, everything was GREAT! I am in love with this movie. 10 out of 10. Who ever took this movie personally, well, you shouldn't. I love my country however we are not perfect and we all know this. BACK TO MY COMMENTS… I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! I can honestly say, this movie was creatively, artistically done with passion. The culture, the women, the men, the determination and love was so beautifully shown during the whole movie. The title "Valley of the Volves" was what made me want to watch this movie. The characters were amazing. I really loved the music, it was very different and exotic and cultural. It was so beautiful. I am so buying the DVD. It's something worth keeping and watching over and over and over again. :-) Cheers! Byeeeeee xxx
